Dr. Whitney Hough Hired as OTT’s Venture Development Associate

The Office for Technology Transfer is proud to announce the hiring of Dr. Whitney Hough as the new Venture Development Associate.

“I am really excited to be working for OTT,” Whitney said. “UA has a tremendous amount of research going on in a range of fields from computer science to biology with new discoveries happening everyday.”

In this position, Whitney will be responsible for commercializing The University of Alabama’s intellectual property in the form of a license, spin-off company, or further development of the technology through partnerships, all in an effort to maximize the value to The University and increase UA’s economic development activities.

Furthermore,  Whitney will engage with inventors, strategize to commercialize technology, assess commercial markets, develop financial models, structure and negotiate deal terms. Also, she will direct and participate in the development of business plans, as well as the identification of necessary and prudent business resources.

Dr. Whitney Hough has earned an MBA in Innovation Management and PhD in Chemistry from The University of Alabama. She has won elevator pitch competitions, started a tutoring company and is an adjunct faculty member at University of South Alabama; working to develop an online course that helps to  provide an overview of business basics and entreprenuership to technical students.
