How To Be Robot-proof

According to studies by Oxford University, McKinsey, and Pricewaterhouse Coopers, 50% of our current jobs could be replaced by robots in the next 20 years. You read that right… 50%. So, what can we do to survive? Well, we must focus on the skills only humans possess so we can have jobs that are “robot-proof”. Universities will no longer be teaching students subjects that have long become irrelevant, but will focus on what has been coined “humanics”. This curriculum would be comprised of technical literacy, data literacy, and human literacy. Say goodbye to MATH 112 and say hello to Global Diplomacy 101 and Creativity 102. Along with a modernized curriculum, workplace experience will be necessary rather than recommended. We must rise to the challenge of artificial intelligence. (Time)

Instagram Influencer: The Hot New Career?

Long gone are the days that you have to search through a catalog and call in an order for that sweater you like. Now, all you have to do is scroll through Instagram to do your shopping. Dallas-born Amber Venz always had fashion in her blood and it didn’t take long for her personal shopper blog to become famous after a full-page spread in the Dallas Morning News. Following this, Venz created RewardStyle, an invitation-only platform that allows influencers and fashion bloggers to make money from their posts. When a customer clicks the link that an influencer attaches to their post and buys the item, they make commission. With $3.8 billion in revenue produced since its start in 2011, RewardStyle hopes to give fashion influencers everywhere the ability to make their passion into a career. (CNN)

Move Aside Donuts, It’s Just “Dunkin’”

Number two on the Franchise 500 list, Dunkin’, formerly Dunkin’ Donuts, has decided to change its direction in 2019. Following the name change in September 2018, Dunkin’ has decided to pursue the beverage business with full force. Just last year, they introduced an espresso option, a new tap system with the sole purpose of serving cold drinks, and new uniforms that display their new focus on coffee. They have even rolled out a new store design, with 50 of the new stores opened at the end of 2018. But don’t worry, donut lovers, they will be keeping their original donuts on the menu and the double D logo will remain the same for now. (Entrepreneur)

Exoplanet Explorers Make a New Discovery

Thanks to the data left behind by NASA’s Kepler Space Telescope, volunteer scientists from a citizen program called Exoplanet Explorers just discovered a planet, named K2-288Bb, that is almost twice the size of Earth. It is 226 light years away in the constellation Taurus. This is a very exciting discovery because planets of this size, called exoplanets, are very rare to find outside of our solar system. This planet was missed by software algorithms and was only discovered from volunteers examining light-curve data from Kepler with their own eyes. If this planet escaped our notice for so long, who knows how many more exoplanets are out there. (Engadget)
